Hawai’ian Lawmakers Eye to Close Pay-to-Play Loophole
While current State law limits State contractors from making political contributions during their contract period, as part of a series of proposed reforms in the wake of last year’s ethical scandals, lawmakers have recently introduced legislation to extend this prohibition to the contractor’s officers, employees, and their immediate family members in order to close the perceived loophole. The bill, SB 201, unanimously passed the State Senate Judiciary Committee last Thursday, leaving many observers to believe it will eventually become law.
