Chicago, IL – New Lobby Law Passed
Effective July 1, 2024, the Chicago lobbying law will be updated to create new registration and reporting requirements. Under the changes, lobbyist registration will now be required after hitting one of two thresholds, either lobbying for 20 hours, or receiving and/or expending $1,250 in any quarterly reporting period. Additionally, non-profits with at least $5,000,000 in net assets or balances may now be required to register as well. The law also implements new exemptions for certain grassroots activity, imposes new minimum thresholds for expense reporting, and increases certain fines.
