Colorado – Campaign Contribution Limits Put on Trial

A bench trial over whether Colorado’s initiative-passed campaign contribution limits are unconstitutionally low is currently underway and set to conclude July 26.  Plaintiff lawmakers in the case argue that permitting self-funding candidates to bypass limits, combined with the relatively low dollar amounts permitted, impermissibly limits their free speech and ability to compete electorally.
