Missouri Updates Campaign Finance Laws to Allow Some LLCs to Make Contributions
Missouri regulators are preparing for a change in state law designed to allow some businesses that are formed as LLCs to give directly to candidates. Missouri prohibits corporate contributions, but allows LLCs that have not elected to be classified as a corporation to make contributions in the state if the LLC registers with the Missouri Ethics Commission before making any campaign contributions to Missouri committees. The commission released guidance on the new requirements and said it is developing a portal on its website for companies to register and for candidates to search whether a company has submitted the proper paperwork.
